In my lexicon, a “Subhead” that appears above a large-type “Heading” is an “Eyebrow.” Here the Eyebrow becomes sign footnote qualifying the “Pets Welcome” to “Pets Welcome … if Vaccinated and Leashed.” Still the welcome message gets across big and bold, and the healthy and well-behaved qualifiers are still communicated inoffensively. From the car the large type makes it look like my rabid Pit Bull could come in with me … until I walk to the door. Guess I need to tie him to the lamp post outside to await my return.
