As an engineer we called it “slop.” As a advertising man I can more attractively call it “forgivingly toleranced.” As non-precision constructs, all hooks have some “play” in mating to the display surface. Exaggerate that “loose fit” by using 1/4″ pegboard hooks on a thin-wall perforated metal surface and you can get the hooks to round a curve.
