I was simultaneously attracted and repelled by Hook backlighting in this display case. The floor level cases would have escaped notice if not lit at all. But the backlighting was so fierce as to throw the merchandise into shadow anyway. Pure frontlighting would have made the case look like every other surface in the store … again without advantage. I think as in good photography, the correct contrast between background and foreground lighting could make glass case merchandising dramatic and powerful.
