First-Beer-Free Retail Promo indeed. What better opening line for a promotion than “First Beer Free?” This was such an intriguing pitch that, as with the mainline Retail Trade Publications, I decided to cover it as signage for the Hospitality Channel of retail. You might think this approach could only work for a low-end dive or biker bar. Not so. This is roadside sandwich-sign advertising for a very classy restaurant. Their retailing challenge is to create space in the dining room and main bar for even more patrons. So they have provided drinking and dining opportunities outside the main structure. And what better way to lure out patrons than a free first drink under the starlit summer sky? Their most exciting promotion of the year? Artistic ice sculptures outside in January and February.
