Apparently Stickball has grown into a sport so professional that Sporting Goods Stores stock the bat, and fixture manufacturers offer a slatwire rack for merchandising it. I must surely be getting long-in-the-tooth, for in my day Stickball was an informal street game. I never knew anyone who “purchased” a “manufactured” Stickball Bat. And I am in awe of marketers who can sell broom sticks as upscale sports paraphernalia.
I could be mistaken about the rack as Stickball-only in focus. The raised walls could be used to contain and merchandise other goods in bulk much like a Wire Basket. But for now assume single-purpose, for the rack was not seen anywhere else in the store but this Professional Stickball Department.
