Blue Jean merchandising is kicked up a notch by these signs of gold gracing Tag-Channel (C-Channel) built into stainless steel shelves. The signage was gold ink underlayed with white (to insure vibrancy), surrounded by matt black overprint. Personally I would have used a white, coated stock and a varnish or U.V. coating overprint to prevent scratching in shipping and on the shelf edge.
A fancier but higher cost alternative would be actual foil stamping in gold. Remember that embossing helps foils reflect light and stand out all the more – if you have a budget for it. Gold foil against a black background can almost disappear when lit from some angles. Hence Medieval Calligraphers created gilded elements on raised “sizing.” But however produced, you must admit it is an interesting effect.
I am torn by the “Rerock” logo implementation. On the one hand it is Blackletter and Medieval in tone which fights the modern-look shelving. But if I pretend to myself it is meant as contemporary Goth it becomes far more agreeable. Feel free to leave your own thoughts as a comment.
Did I mention in an alternate reality I was a Calligrapher and former Juried Member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen? At one time I could actually letter respectably in Blackletter. Sadly, no more. I’m not even sure my Uncial and Half Uncial is up to snuff.
